Woodie-izing a Morris Minor 8 CWT Van(?)

Post by ubermojo »

 Friends and Fellow Travelers,
I just aquired (metaphysically speaking, as I won't have it for a couple months) what was described as a '72 Morris Minor 8 CWT Van via New Zealand auction. '72, the 1st yr registered, so likely '71? As a novice, I apologize for my ignorance (differentiated from our moron junta prez and general international schoolyard bully, but I digress political).

From my research to date, and what can be gathered from web pics, the all metal body look to be the same as a Traveler(?). Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, has anyone woodie-ized a Traveler that wasn't a production Woodie? Are there any contacts, kits, other direction to expertise that can help me assess the feasibility of this?

I very much appreciate the time and trouble, and to readers whether helpful or no, wish all the best of health, happiness and trouble free motoring.
in spirit.

woodies

The traveller and the vans are completely different! The van has
a different chassis and there is no way you could add traveller wood
to the van. ( well, I suppose you could do if you wanted everbody to
laugh at you).

To expand on that, the Traveller's wood is part of the structure,
not merely decorative, and the 'chassis' layout is very similar to
the convertible. The vans have a separate chassis and the body
is completely different so it would not be a swop job.

Willie,
Thanks for the underscored overview - appreciate the knowledge base. As for being laughed at...nothing if not familiar.
your humble servant,

I forgot to mention - the traveller doors are several inches wider than those on a van, so it could never look right.

If you have a pic of this machine we could soon tell. (you could e-mail to me) The fact that it is from NZ and that it is a '72 would tell that it is a true van as there were no woodies assembled here, only imports and there were only vans and utes built from '63 on.

It may well be a '72 as they were in production till '73.
