What are the max revs for a 1098 in standard nick? This because I have fitted a rev counter, and it never gets past 4400 rpm. Which sound a tad low for me. It sort of feels if teh valves are bouncing. Is this normal? Not that I often get past 3500 rpm...

I think it's around 5100 but I would not take an old, worn one much over 5000 if I were you.

No... or you get the sound that Hebe produces in most gears above about 3,500... (The result of long milage on motorways at 5,000 rpm...

Oh it's lovely it is...

Hello Onne, I dont know the answer sorry, but would like to know the specifics of the fitting for this... I am going do it myself. Are there instructions (and for other dials) anywhere? Where are you mounting the dial?

Thanks for the answers.

Kirstmin, I have placed my gauges in the door of the glove compartment. It is as easy as 1 2 3 to fit, my gauges (£30 each) came with clear instructions. The rev counter uses the coil to determine the revs.

I think i prefer them without overriders on the back

I think the later cars (1000s) look better with overriders and the early split-screen cars better without (personally).

Cam, you'd better move the overiders from Monty to Gracie then!

1098 engine is good for short bursts up to 7000 rpm - but not for long. Continuous running at anything over 6000 breaks the crank, quite quickly. Adding a crankshaft damper helps the crank life considerably. But why on earth would you want to count the revs ?

Well, just for fun. And because you can! And because I wanted to know how many revs it does at 65mph

It's probably quite handy for seeing if you're running at over 6000 rpm as well, isn't it?

Yes. Not that I ever will, since my R max is 4500 at the moment

 Actually, Monty does not have an overrider issue at the moment as he's stripped down:

Plus, he'd only got a temporary 1000 bumper blade on (you can tell as the overriders are in the wrong place! - they cover up the sidelights).

Hey Onne, thanks for the info. Where can I get these gauges?
