Hello all, i've asked this question as part of a different thread but got no response so he it is in all its glory... I am needing to replace the wires leading into and out of the coil, dynamo etc... as the plastic coatings are perished and beginning to fail on a regular basis. Maplin do several types of electrical wire and I dont know which to go for, any advice?

Equipment Wire (7/0·2) for general interconnections within apparatus
Equipment Wire (16/0·2) for general purpose and heavy duty interconnections within apparatus
Equipment Wire (24/0·2) for general purpose extra heavy duty interconnections within apparatus
High Current Wire (50/0·25) for high current applications

Halfrauds and places sell wire with a stated current rating which could be what you're after - a limited range of colours, but it does the job.

Search on the web for "Auto electric Supplies" and "Vehicle Wiring Products". Both good companies and their catalogues list sizes of wire, typical applications, and loads of colours so that you can get exactly the right wire. It will be proper automotive wire rated for the temperatures inside an engine bay. You can also get sleeving to replace the old cloth binding. Just one thought: If those wires have gone, what's the rest of the loom like? You might be better getting a complete ready made loom from one of the Minor traders.

Thanks you two, useful links simmitc. It's really only the exposed wires (the ones out of the loom) that are a problem so I can cut them back and do a decent repair job. I'll do this whilst replacing my dynamo for the alternator I bought ages ago. That's one flat battery too far!
