Exhaust mountings

Hi again folks.
It has just been pointed out to me that having the exhaust (4 door saloon - 1098cc) mounted by the clamp to the manifold, and one strap at the rear is not enough support. This is how the car was when I bought it. On reflection, it does seem insufficient. Has anyone out there any idea of where a 2nd mounting should be fitted? If so, what parts would be needed?

There should be a middle hanger (flexible rubberised strap)with a little bracket on to which the strap bolts. The bracket is bolted through the floor.
On my car the bolt is about two inches forward of the rear seat support, but
I seem to remember that I had to decide where to drill the hole myself. On
my car the centre hanger strap is considerably longer than the rear strap.

You can get all the bits in Hellfrauds. Slightly in front of the rear axle is the place, but keep it away from the spring and damper.

'somewhere in the rear footwell' is the normal place fore the centre mount. A second mount will reduce the load on the (often problematic) manifold clamp joint.
Another one I've seen a few times (a bit Heath Robinson, but probably works belt-and-braces style) is a U-bolt clamp on the downpipe just inside where it exits the engine bay, attached to a sturdy steel strip, and the other end of the steel strip bolted to a gearbox bolt. This would stop the swinging action of the exhaust that can wreck the clamp joint (and destroy the manifold sealing face)
