Raising up the front seats

I have given up on the stupid rubber raising blocks and intend to weld something to the bottom of the seats as I feel like an idiot sitting so low and my wife cant see out of the windscreen. Any tips appreciated. I was thinking of all sorts of things like retained nuts and threaded rod to just blocks of steel. What have you done??

You could drill a hole in the bottom of the seat bits and bolt something on, so you can remove it if you sell the car and the next person doesn't need it!

Are you sure that your being too low is not due to sagging seats? All new
upholstery fittings are readily available. I had the reverse problem and
actually had to cut down the seat tubing to lower them. You could compare
the seat heights with another Minor in case this sort of mod was done to your
car in the past.

Quite oddly they have been re-upholstered Im nearly 6ft and 15st and could do with the back of the seat being 2'' higher. Friends have commented that I look like a beast hiding in a jelly mould.............

ok, so you arnt exactly small, but I can sit on the floor pan and see through the windscreen...

Just buy a bit of 2 x 4 and put it on the floor where the seat sits....

Is the seat located in the forward floor brackets? as I believe the seat sits lower when it is bolted to the further back position. If this makes sense.

It would because of the shape of the floor pan, not sure it would make that much difference tho....

How about bolting a couple of these through the back rail on the seat???

Cheap enough to buy at your local hardware shop!

If you do bolt on a couple of stoppers like that, make sure they a fairly hard rubber. I did it with ones that turned out quite soft, and over time, they compressed to almost nothing with just the weight of the seat on them!

Try using box section steel cut to length. I found a good selection of sizes in B&Q when I looked in there.

Hey thanks for all the tips. In the end I welded a nut to the seat and put a round headed bolt through, I can just remove the bolt at a later date. It works a treat. Just need to cut them down and add another nut to lock at correct height.

Blimey! You had better wear a crash helmet in case your head goes through
the roof!

would it be a good idea to have something a little wider, would the bolts gradually wear an indent and then hole in the floor

And I hope your welds are strong, but I love the idea!!

Dont worry folks, the bolts are big dome headed and the welding is as good as it gets, It dare not ever fail :D Trust me it is good enough.

Fingers crossed :(
