I've recently become the proud owner of a morris minor!! Firstly i would like to fit an alternator. Is there a standard bracket that can be used??
Also any info on the fitting of disc brakes would be much appreciated. I know there is an after market kit but wondered if there was a cheaper way
Thanks, Garry

I gather that the alternator bracket from a Mini can be used. I'm not aware of a way of doing disc brakes short of getting a kit

, but I'm sure somebody will be along soon to expound on the virtues of larger drums from a Wolsely 1500

There is a cheaper way than buying the kit. Getting the discs and fabricating the connections yourself, either that or getting a donor minor which has already had it done, swap the braking systems and sell the donor on

Certainly the cheapest way to get a Minor with bigger engine, alternator and disk brakes is to go out and buy one!
However, it is possible to get disk brake kits second hand but you might have to wait a couple of years to find them and most people wouldn't recommend using second hand brakes due to safety issues.
With some engineering skill it is possible to fabricate a caliper mounting bracket but you need to pay a lot of attention to strength, therefore most people who upgrade to disks will buy a kit off the shelf.

I understand the importance of using new parts for braking systems and never use anything else!! I was wondering if the discs were common to another vehicle e.g. MG midget where I could obtain these at trade prices??
I have been looking on G.S Jones website, his disc brake kit is based
Ford Sierra vented discs and calipers, I am not sure about the hubs though. Might be worth a call.
Thanks for your thoughts, any more info would be much
appreciated.
Garry.

The kits available use the discs from a Marina, Midget or Ford Sierra - though I believe they use Escort ones now. The BEST available kit is the Ford one from JLH, IMHO.

I thought it was 'honest', rather than humble, either will do I suppose.

Yes I can confirm that too. I had no end of problems with the kits with the aluminium hubs. Loads of warped disks and vibrations. Also the caliper needed some material taking off to get the wheel to rotate! And the calpiers needed 'shimming' out to the correct location using washers!
In the end (and after a lot of tearing hair out) I bought a new JLH kit. It fitted lovely, has no problems and I just wish I had bought it in the first place instead of wasting money on the inferior kit.

Just wondered where Bull Motif are getting their new kits from, because on their website they are now with steel hubs and not the alloy ones.

Bull Motif are now selling our kits, several other traders are doing likewise now.

There's also "IMVHO" - In my very humble opinion.
With the implied meaning that I know far better than anyone else on this planet (or any other), but I'm trying to be a nice guy today....
(and I'm not commenting on the disc brakes!)

Why's that the implication? The point is to say that it's an opinion, NOT a statement of fact. I think you're reading it wrong.
NOTE TO SELF To save any misunderstanding, I must write "Please note that this is my opinion and not a dogmatic absolute undeniable truth" in future...
