I am having problems with fuel going back up the filler neck from the tank and spilling out through the cap when I go round a right hand bend, even at quite slow speeds. It seems to happen most when the tank is about half full. It's doing nothing for my MPG.

The filler pipe goes straight into the tank (no bends etc.) and appears to have an outer pipe, with an inner pipe fitted inside this.

Is it just on my pickup or is this a common problem? and has anyone got any bright ideas as to how to fix this? At the moment I have a kind off leather bung, but this isn't perfect.

The only thing I can think is that the cap isnt sealing properly on the filler tube when its screwed shut. Maybe check the seal inside the cap? Or perhaps check the chain isnt getting in the way of the attachment lug to stop it completely shutting? I've had that before. Everythink else sounds the same as all the Morris's I've had. The filler with a tube within a tube is standard and the idea is that it lets air out of the tank when the petrol goes in. Preferably the tube should be turned so the biggest gap between the two tubes is uppermost. That way, the air coming out has an easy path around the outside when the petrol goes down the middle. It stops it burping out fuel over your toes when you're filling up. Cheers, Colin.

One of my p-ups was leaking fuel from the filler neck - I haven't investigated why yet 'cos I haven't been using it, but I'd assumed it was to do either with the flexible part of the neck or the big jubilee clips on it - may turn out that they're non standard (they're on yet another pick-up) but maybe worth a check.
