Left hand drive lights ??

Post by tracy123 »

It sounds obvious - if I have fixed beam headlights from a scrap car , and they have " Left Drive " on the lens, does that mean they are for LHD cars ?

???????????

:-?

From a previous thread, I think No.

Sealed beam units weren't used in LHD markets for some reason (at least that is what was said previously). Left Drive probably means Drive on the left.

We never had sealed beam units on this side of the pond.

Not sure what you mean, Tracy. Do you mean sealed beams, ie those where the bulb filaments are contained in a big bulb the size and shape of a headlamp?
If so, and hoping this helps, my old sealed beams (fitted in 1963) have
the Lucas logo in the centre of the glass face and LH TRAFFIC in the bottom left hand position (at about 7o'clock). These dip to the left and are meant for British style drive on the left traffic. Regards, MikeN.
PS Right at bottom raised on the glass are the words SEALED BEAM.

Thanks all ... I drove it in the dark tonight and as has been suggested already , all was well.

Indeed it did dip to the left as it should.

Cheers again.

My LHD headlights said 'Right' on them  (not sealed beam types)
Presumably because they are for driving on the right.
Anyway - they had the opposite light pattern to RHD headlights and when used with Halogen bulbs they did a great job... but not as good as the cars with additional high mounted spotlights.
