White paint- which white???

My 4-door 1971 Saloon, I allways thought it was Snowberry white, but now I'm not so sure as three or four whites are listed, and the Snowberry white I got mixed matches some of the panels, but not all.

Various parts of the car are slightly different shades of white!!!!

what should I do?

(I'm just going to be painting the underside as it gets repaired, I fancy stonechip, then body colour)

John, dont forget to prime before the stonechip and on top of, it before you apply body colour. Stonechip and primers are both porous. Personally I'd do the above paint then cover with Shultz underseal, unless the car is going to be shown.

Thanks Jononthan, I was planning on using a zinc rich primer before the stone chip, but would I still need to prime if chassis black was going on top of the stone chip?? The tin of chassis black instructions suggest it doesn't need primer.....hmnnn, choices, choices....

Personally I would, and also onto the stone chip once you have primed over it. I'd check about the 'no primer needed', as it doesn't always mean that you shouldn't. If you are using the weld through stuff such as galve spray then I would imagine that this will not present a problem. Are you intending on leaving the stonechip as your final surface. I wouldn't as it is porous, and will lead to blisters of water/dampness between the two layers of paint. I'd rather go for Gravitex shultz, which we use and is a magic product. This goes off to give a finish like stonechip but offers much more in terms of sound deadening and underside protection.

Thanks Jonathon, I did not realise that stone chip was porous, they do not tell you these things on the can!

I just hope that the waxoyl on top of the stone chip under the new front wing of the traveller will do the trick.

Yep, I've been caught out with the old porous stonechip gag.

Felt distinctly irritated at having to grind back and start again on something i'd thought was finished. My can also said it needed no primer but I was later informed that most seem to let water through.
