Headlights

My sidelights and pilot lights are working
But my main headlights are only working on full beam
The bulbs look okay
Any ideas

Lo, the main beam and dipped come from the Dipper SWitch
since the main beams are working (Blue/White wire) then the supply
to the dipper is OK so the problem is either a faulty dipper switch
or a faulty 'dipped' supply lead (blue/red lead). you could easily
check this by swopping the blue/white and blue/red leads over at the
dipper switch. If you then get the dipped lights working but not full
beam then you have a faulty dipper switch.
If,on the other hand, you still only get Main beam working then it would
suggest that there is a break in the blue/red lead between the dipper
and the headlamps.....probably where there is one of the dreaded
bullet connectors, they need a good clean up every now and then.

One warning about cleaning the bullet connectors. DO NOT PULL
THEM APART BY TUGGING ON THE WIRES, too easy to break off
the leads. Use a pair of thin nosed pliers on the metal parts.
The tubular parts are extremely brittle, if you try to close them up
to make a better fit they are liable to fracture. New ones are
readily available.

I have found that if you use a Mini Drill to clean up the bullets you get a quick and clean job. B & Q do one for under £20

Hi
Just done those checks
Still the same so dipswitch ok
I checked the cable from switch to first bullet continuity ok
How easy to check between here and the lights ie how many other bullets

As they are both not working, the best place to check is only the wiring between the dipper switch and where the 2 feeds seperate from each other (left and right).
It is unlikely that the 2 seperate wires (left and right) have gone open circuit at the same time... but not impossible :-S

I have just checked on my 57' car and,standing facing the radiator,
the bullet connector with THREE blue/red wires in it is the left hand
one. These are the feed from the dip switch, the feed for the off side
dipped beam and the feed to the near side headlight. If there is any
logic this is where your trouble should be??
