I have just changed knackered ignition coil on my morris 1000. However this has brought about a rather worrying problem....
The engine now revs like mad.
There is probably a simple explaination as to what i can do to get it back to a normal speed but i dont know what it is!
Any suggestions would be most gratefully recieved.
revving like mad....

Broke throttle return spring??
Look at the carb on the bulkhead side, there should be a spring that returns the throttle butterfly to the closed position when the accelerator pedal is released.

what about an inlet manifold gasket leak/leak between carb and spacer block/between spacer block and manifold, or a fault in the oil breather, if yours is the type that feeds oil fumes into the inlet manifold?
On my cars these faults have caused engine rev problems. Although never "revving like mad"!
another possibillity, frayed throttle cable.

revving
ARE you sure?? If the butterfly IS fully closed then the engine could not
rev like mad! Have you by any chance dislodged the outer of the throttle
cable so that it is sitting on the edge of the housing rather than sitting IN it?
