mystery wire
I have a green with thin red stripe wire"hanging about" in the engine compartment.
This wire comes out of the loom near front bulkhead, has a black plastic sleeve wire round it and an insulated female spade connector. It ends up on floor of engine compartment below the distributor.
Wiring diagram show only green / red as LH flashers front and rear but both of these (and all other lights) work without this wire being connected. Any ideas?

could it be for the the 'oil-filter-blocked' sensor?
or maybe the oil pressue sensor?
From memory these have wires 'green + something' on the later cars.

Another possibility is that your car originally had the relay used on the 948cc
cars which was mounted in the engine bay? If so this had a green/red wire
which mated with a green/blue lead to terminal 4. If your car has been mod-
ified to the later type flasher unit then it would have been redundant? In other
words what year is your car?

246GTS....In that case I think the wire in question was included in case your
model was using the earlier 948 type relay. (the oil filter warning light,if fitted
would be a Green/yellow lead, and also green/yellow on the oil pressure switch).

On both of my late cars (69 Traveller and 71 saloon) there is also a wire hanging around by the distributor that appears to have no function!!!
Oil filter light blocked is a possibillity as both cars also have the light on the speedo.
I might connect the wire to earth amd see if the extra orange light comes on!

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

I've got a the same wire in my 71 traveller. I couldn't bring myself to cut it off - so just taped it up out of sight. A word of warning mine is a live (-ve) switched by the ignition. so don't short it out.

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
