Idiot Proof Oil filter-Not for this Idiot!

Post by sloopjohnrb »

'Doing a service and have encountered severe probs with oil filter replacement.
Oil leak from filter housing when engine runs.
Having looked at the diagrams on Charles Ware's site, I discover that mine has a top compression plate that the other 2 on CW's site doesn't have. I need to:
A Identify EXACTLY what type of oil filter I have.
B Ascertain whether the parts I have are the correct ones.

There's a possibility that the oil filter head that attaches to the engine could be a culprit, anyone know ehere I can source this part?
Thanks to everyone
JOHN

Hi John the most common source of a leak after a filter change is the seal above the filter not seating in the groove, the only way I have found of getting it to stay in place is to smear it with some oil then make sure it goes fully home into the groove and then swiftly put the filter assembly back.
On the website you mention the offending part is referred to as the Seal Sump To Head, for your type of filter its number 4 for the other types its number 19.
If anyone has a better solution ( apart from changing to a mini assembly ) to locating the seal please let us know.
Cheers
