Well, we all want to know now, since there is a bet going!

Erm, you can only vote once and I have 1 alternator and 3 dynamos on my Minors. So by averages I guess I'll have to vote dynamo. Although REALLY speaking I should vote 3 times for dynamo and once for alternator.

Shame, 'cos I have 3 alternators

It's just Minors though isn't it? Otherwise I'd have to put 2 more alternators down!

Yup, just Minors (or Morris LCVs, if you're feeling picky)

Or one Morris LCV and 2 Austin, if you're feeling REALLY picky

currently 4 DYNAMO'S.... (12:1 if you count all the Minors I've owned + driven - and yes I know I've had 14)

Well, I have got 100% dynamo!

Alternator on my Minor. I ran a dynamo for a year then it has been alternators ever since.
John
PS All the alternators have been attached to Fiat engines!

Well, I have got 100% dynamo
It would be a fascinating animal that was 50% dynamo and 50% alternator.
Anyway I've voted once, but it should be for 4 alternators - 3 Travellers plus ex-Panda

two cars eh! My other means of transport also has some sort of dynamo.

Phyllis has an alternator - needs it too to keep all the other bits working nicely. I'd be happy to keep the dynamo, but it didn't really produce enough current to keep everything running. Of course, since she's now used mainly for a short commute, it's nice to know the battery's pretty cared-for.

Kinda... ;)

hmm... based on current vehicles people have (to discount Ray's 11

) it is 9:9 according to the posts, although I'm not sure if simmitc currently has all 3 travellers, and the Panda doesn't count (so it might be 9:7 to dynamos)
and none of that ties up with the voting!
I think we'll have to call in the UN to oversee the votes

based on current vehicles
Oh very witty

Lowedb:
I have five dynamos for Mog,
so that's 14:7 to dynamos then?

Why doesn't my ex-panda count? It's 100% genuine ex Cardiff City Police Force 2 door 1968 Morris 1000 saloon with documented history. Yes, all four Minors on the road. I didn't count the previous ones I've owned or all the spares; that would just get silly
For those who prefer dynamos, I wonder about the idea of making a double crankshaft pully to drive a second belt and then mounting a second dynamo plus control box in parallel with the first. 2 x 22 amps = 44 amps - surely enough for anyone. Could get really silly and have a second battery with changeover switches so you could always run one one or the other or both. Then all you need is a second coil, starter motor, ........

Why doesn't my ex-panda count?
oh - I thik I misunderstood it the sameway - and thought 'ex' meant you'd sold it. Doh!

3 Minors, 3 dynamos fitted.

When I got the 4 door it didn't recharge. Fitted a new set of brushes and it worked fine. Never had a problem with the dynamo on my 2 door that couldn't be solved with a starting handle! Never needed a towtruck either - my one breakdown was due to a broken wire to the coil.

I was feeling all righteous about this being a staunch dynamo fan. Fatal! Two days ago no amps! Much pulling in and out of spare dynamos to no effect! Its a dead regulator- like really dead. And the final try of installing a dynamo and leaning over the wing to do it has tweaked my back so I can't stand up straight. Oh, wot it is to be old.
Anyway, had to pay up and had a brand new alternator installed. (Allen Hill, £80 while you wait.) Now have joined the modernists. Personally, I blame the Dutch. Regards, MikeN.
PS Wot do you press to vote?

We should all blame the dutch, but would you be so kind to wait until I move to the other side of the pond?
