Is a 1275 Spridget gearbox in any way different to a 1098 Minor gearbox ?

It will definately fit and work (ok... if the box works anyway...). I think the ratios are very slightly different, but not particularly. They also have a provision for a reversing light switch!!!

Thanks Matt - I was wondering about the splines on the input shaft - will it take the Minor clutch plate ok ?

I think you will find that some of the gears run needle bearings.

is that on the input shaft/ and out put.
all these g/boxes have needle rollers on the layshaft.
what you could do is find the part number for the sprite clutch and see if its the same for the minor.

Thanks all so far. Did the Spridget box ever get the 4 syncro gears from the Mini ?

Brixton, I cannot answer your question with any certainty, but it is my understanding that the needle bearings fitted are in additional areas to those in the Minor box.

Which is why I asked if the 4 syncro ever reached the Spridget box - because it was around that time that the Mini box gained needle rollers under the main gears.
needle rollers

The spridget 1275 gearboxes had needle roller bearings on the 2nd/3rd
gears instead of the Minors bronze bushes.

i have a 1275 midget gearbox in my van and it works just fine, clutch is a bit harder but apart from that it is ok and stronger for the 1275 engines a good combination

Aye - well if I can just find an in-line 1275 engine !! Got 4 Mini 1275s in stock, but no in-line ones up here these days !
