Indicator dash Light

Post by sidsmith »

Hi all, I have just put some flashing indicators on mungo, He is a '56 splitty. I put two flasher units in the engine bay one for each side as it says on the technical cd. What I would like to know now is can I take a Wire from the flasher unit (one each side) and connect to two lights on the dash to show that i'm indicating, at the moment the only sign is the trafficators that pop up although the flashers are working. If so what light would you recommend to use and could I cannibalise one from a scrap car and would it have to be earthed. Your comments would be most useful and appreciated.
regards Sid.

If you want one light per side (so you can see you've got the left or right on) then you'll need to take the feed for the warning lights from the relevent wiring. ie take a feed from the left indicator wire for the left bulb, and right wire for the right bulb. Probably easiest done on the wires off the switch, but I can't remember the colours for them (green/ white and green/red springs to mind, but I'm most likely wrong).

Does your car have bullet connectors to wire the switch to the loom? If so, then replace the single type (one hole in, one out) with a twin (two holes each end, all connected) type so you can solder a bullet onto your warning light wires and simply plug them into the system :)

Or just connect an isolated warning light between the two sides - when one side flashes it will earth through the other, thus showing a glow !
