Missing PM's !

Post by rayofleamington »

Hi,
I had some emails this evening informing me that I'd had PM's (e.g. quarter to 7 and another at quarter past 7)
There were no new one's in my inbox - anyone got any ideas?

June 07 - back from Zwickau Trabi Treffen
Aug 07 & Aug 08 - back from the Lands End to Orkney in 71 pickup
Sept 2010 - finally gave up breaking down in a SII Landy...
where to break down next?
2013... managed to seize my 1275 just by driving it round the block :(

Someone pm'd you, then changed their mind and deleted them before you read them maybe? It's possible to do that.

I've been having very strange probs with PMs for the last few days and also with e mail. I just assumed, given that ITV was off air for most of the day here, that things were in some way weather related :D

missing mail

Post by jtd.75 »

Hi Ray, I too posted you a email re the oil pipe in reply to your your posting on the forum the same day that you put it on the forum, there must be a black hole with a lot of lost email somewhere, its getting a bit like the royal mail you post it and then hope it arrives. Over the last couple of years I have had quite a lot of letters and a few parcels go missing never to be seen again.

Ah - I was wondering why you ignored me. Doh! never mind.

Maybe Royal Mail programmed our PM system...

As for missing parcels, my local posties have a habit of leaving things 'somewhere else' if they can't fit it in the letter box. So far I've found things on the doorstep, deleivered to the neighbours or even in the garden (with no note through the door). As I travel quite a lot this is really infuriating! Sooner or later (or maybe already) I won't find the package at all.

R Mail

Post by jtd.75 »

Hi Ray I think that things are programed by beings from an other planet, as for our local posties, living in a rural area we all know one and other and most people know me as the local BTt guy even though I am retired and my wife was the nurse in the local Drs Surgery up till recently so the problem is not at our local end (sorting office) its just not arriving there If they had a parcel for either me and the wife and knowing at the time we were both working things were usually left in my local telephone exchange or the DRs. like I said everyone knows everyones business.

Loads of our mail kept going missing a few years ago - turned out the Royal Mail had subcontracted to some dodgy cowboy firm in Acton :-? which destroyed most of the mail it received! The directors were sentenced this week but the customers like me who suffered won't be getting any compensation.

thats now comming a common practice now, I know at one time a certain guy I knew who worked on payphones, was actually stopped bt the BT Investigation Branch (SIB) and had quite a conciderable amount of money on his van that he managed to acquire from the cash compartments of the payphones which must have taken him a year to amount up. No prosocution was brought against him because the publicity would have been bad for the firm he was asked to resign but he had to tell them how he manage to fool the security system, oh bye the way he did not loose his pension.

I read about that in the paper (on a plane to Germany :( ) it sounded like they got there comupance, but yes - it didn't mention any restitution to the mail recipients, only that these guys had swindled money for delivering mail that they had dumped.

Right - getting back on topic -the problem with lost PM's STILL happens regularly and it still causes problems :(

This leads to confusion and often leads to chaos regarding parts for sale. Sooner or later it is likely to lead to someone etting very upset (for anyone who doesn't realise that the PM system is unreliable)

Hopefully the Admins will be able to track down the problem...

Ray, I will send you a PM as soon as I have posted this to test the system. Unfortunately I can't do anything with the software. I only have the access rights to edit and delete the text posted on here. I can't do anything at system level. Sorry. :(

Yep, problem was at the server end and not ours so we had to wait for it to be fixed. It seems to be OK now though. :D
