MODIFIED/CUSTOM REGISTER ?

Post by ronwilson »

Haven't seen or heard anything of this Register in the MM or Message Board for some time. As a matter of interest, does anyone know if this Register still going or has it lapsed ?

Hmmm... Well, were there one up and running I'd be interested. However, I know that some people don't like the idea of segregation amongst owners..:/

Segregation amongst cars is fine (types, varients, etc), but not owners as previously discussed!

After the AGM on Saturday we got an answer to this one!

The current register has folded and is no more. The MMOC is looking for people to take over the register and I would presume that details will be in Minor Matters soon enough. Jonathon Swift said he would not mind taking over temporarily until a proper registrar could be found, but of course it's got to be publicly offered first.

So, for anyone that is interested, an e-mail to Rosie Hamilton (address is in Minor Matters) would be in order! :D

Perhaps someone who already does a register would like to say how much work is involved :) I'd be up for it - but I'd want to know what I was letting myself in for first!

Well, as registrar you can put as much or as little work in as you wish. The odd liaison meeting with the MMOC each year, a list of members and a newsletter seems to be the usual. Less effort than running a branch really. But you can make it what you want really. Of course a bit of knowledge about your particuilar area of interest is a bonus too. Why? are you interested? If so, give Rosie an e-mail or call! :D

Nikky,

Take a look at the MM Register on this site. Looks good, and setting up a separate section on the MMOC Web is apparently a possibility. That would really help push more discussion on this aspect (important aspect) of Minors. Moding goes way back with the Moggie and I suspect there aren't many that haven't been moded in some way-suspension, braking, tyres, interior etc.

I used to have quite a lot to do with the Custom register back in the days when Russ Smith and then later Andrew Booth ran it.

The main work back then was an A4 4 page photocopied newsletter produed about 4 times a year. It had articles about popular modifications, shows, drag racing, car building tips etc The newsletter survived on contributions from the members, fortunately for the editors I was in article writing mode back then.

A couple of shows were also organised.

However the above was how it was done and does not mean to say it has to be done like that in the future.

John

PS I still have all my Custom Register newsletters.

What extent does a car have to be modified or customised before it's able to be "registered" in the register?

Not much at all. Anything deviating from the factory spec is considered...
