'Premuim Petrol' - BP Ultimate

Post by Gareth »

Hi all!

I've been using this Ultimate unleaded stuff for a while now, and when Phyllis had her valve replaced today, it seemed like a good time to inspect the head.

BP claim that their petrol will clean the engine and reduce carbon deposits. Considering the reconditioned cylinder head, and shiny clean valve were installed only last August (15 months ago) the engine didn't look very clean... There were large areas of deopists in the combustion chambers, and the valves (not just the faulty one) were black with carbon.

Does anyone else use it? I'm not certain that I'm going to be using it regularly now...
Happy Minoring!

I use tescos super 99RON, I have no idea what the inside of my engine looks like though.

If everything is black and carbon-covered the engine is either running too rich - or burning oil. But unless your compression ratio has been cranked up to over 10:1 there is absolutely no point using the 'better' fuel. Just use cheap and cheerful unleaded. Why does the car keep needing exhaust valves ? Something wrong there surely - mine has not had the head off for 6 years now - and runs on cheap unleaded with no additives all the time - and the CR is 10:1 !!

Bp sell ultimate diesel, I do a lot of miles so can make good comparisons, It seems to me that bp ultimate is as good as everyone elses std diesel, but bp's ordinary diesel is crap at least 10% less mpg. So ultimate is better, but only if you compare it with standard BP.

I would expect a cylinder head that is 15 months old to be pretty clean on any fuel if the rest of the engine is in good condition and tune.

As already stated I would suspect there are other issues that you should address.

My first choice of fuel is 4 star leaded, then Shell Optimax and then BP Ultimate.
