painting the manifold

(note to mods - sorry if this is in the wrong section, it's a bit of a hybrid, please feel free to shunt it into the correct one if appropriate)
ello everyone
anyone else paint their manifold? and if so, what with?
were they originally painted?
i visited Philip Horn over the weekend

and he paints his with - wait for it - VHT Hi-Temp Nu-Cast Manifold Coating SP-998 Cast Iron - 1500°F (815°C) *phew*
poking around at rallies I've seen most of the manifolds are left in the nude though
anyone got any thoughts/advice/tips on this one?

One of my spridget mates is getting his cermaic coated (about £150 for a large bore lcb), but he is only doing it to try and reduce underbonnet temperatures. Personally i wouldn't bother!

I expect Hellfrauds will sell you suitable paint - but really, why bother !

well, that's what I'm asking, you see.
I'm pretty new to all this so I'm asking questions so I can learn from you more experienced people.
So my question is: should I bother, and if so, why; and if not, why not?

PS I have a pretty good autofactor near me called VKM, so I would go to them - or search on the internet if they didn't sell whatever it was I wanted.

i painted my manifold, i justed a high temp paint up to 690C used for painting stoves.
No problems as yet and it does tidy things up nicely

Don't buy Halfrauds!!
I used on my sisters mini just on the warm bits ie rad, heat shield and it flaked off within 6 mths

I've never tried it....but I thought that a stove polish such as "Zebrite" might be good

It only comes in Black, but it shines up lovely and is better than a rusty looking mani...
plus it is meant to be subject to v.high temps.
we used to have to use it in the firebrigade to polish the metal tread on the wheeled escape ladder....
