instrument voltage stabiliser

should I run my engine temp gauge from the stabiliser? It seem to be reading high, at the moment I have it connected to the fuse box.

If so how do I get to the back of the speedo if thats where the stabiliser is?
Do I take the glove box liners out or is it something to do with the two holes in the liners?

I bought a second-hand stabiliser from ESM and mounted it on the bulkhead close to the fusebox. Couldn't be bothered fiddling around with glove box liners........ :roll: :roll: :roll:
Just a single self-tapper to mount and earth the stabiliser........nae bother, Jimmy! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Aye, you need to use a voltage stabiliser on the temperature gauge - otherwise it'll read all over the place.

To confirm for those who do not know that the two holes
in the glove boxes are for access, via a crosshead screwdriver,
to the screws which hold the speedometer in place. it is only
necessary to loosen them until the speedo can be pulled out,
no need to remove the glove box liners.

Seems ok! If not a little pricey, you could always try ebay. You have 2 choices with a temp guuage; mechanical or electrical. Mechanicals are a doddle to fit, just fit the sensor bulb thing in the side of the cylinder head. There will be a bolt in there that blanks of the hole, remove this and replace it with the sensor. Alternatively get an electrical one, fit the sensor as you would with the mechanical guage and connect to the guage. Then the supply must be taken off the voltage regulator off the back of the speedo.

To get to this find the holes in the glove box liners and with a phillips head screwdriver locate the screw and unscrew a couple of turns, do this for both sides, the speedo should pop out. The voltage regulator should be a little box at the bottom of the speedo. I believe you use the side of the regulator with a single green wire to splice into, use this as your supply and pop it all together.

If you can find an old Mini it will supply the gauge and the matching sender
unit.

I'm sure someone will ahve a decent condition spare they could flog you for a sensible price - Then you'd need a sender (couple of quid from your local motor factors) and a bit of wire (maybe 50p or so from the same, try to get the right colour coding for future repairs), and if you don't have one then a stabiliser (less than a tenner for solid state off Ebay).

A couple of hours (likely much less) to get it all working and the wiring tidy once you've fitted the guage to the dash, and all done for less than the cost of just a new guage :)

Look down about 2 inches from the thermostat housing/ a few inches to teh right of the number 1 plug, and you should spot it :)

m., having a bad time finding this thing, is it visible from looking at thr front of the car in the bonnet or do you have to start taking things out?? :-?

Can you find the engine number? if you can, look just above it, under the thermostat housing. Wait, I'll make a picture!
