More hiss than Sid
Anyone out there know how to stop my radio sounding like a wind up record player. There is a suppresor on the coil, but me thinks it is the dynamo which is responsible for the hissing Sid impression. Any help appreciated by my eight year old daughter who can't stand my singing much longer

Hello Tufty,
I would also check your aerial earth to ensure good contact. Items that need supressing are those that spark, e.g. points, (your coil capacitor should cover that)), fuel pump and the dynamo.
There is usually a trim adjustment in the radio to get the best from whatever station you favour.

If the 'hiss' gets worse as the revs rise then you probably need
some more suppression. If the hiss is present even with engine off
then you have aerial problems or ,as ALEC suggests, you should
adjust the aerial trimmer (if you have one). It is a small screw
in the casing with an 'aerial' symbol usually. Tune to a weak signal
and adjust the screw for max volume.

CD/Tuner is an older Sony unit which appears to have no aerial trim screw as suggested. Where do I connect the suppressor and what value to the dynamo. Aerial is a Halfords windscreen mounted one I have earthed it to the same point as the interior light. The thoughts on using such a aerial was to save boring holes in the body shell which mister tin weevel seems to do very well with out my help!

I had awful reception until (following a stormy encounter with the garage door, which resulted in a dreadfully bent aeria - but thankfully nothing else) I replaced it. It was only a cheapie, and it's not much in the quality stakes, but I cleaned up the wing-mounting hole and the reception is wonderful now.

Happy Minoring!
