NOS chrome - how to tell??

hiya knowledgeable people,

Just bought some NOS hockey sticks off ebay.

They look in incredible nick, have the little red caps on the screw ends, and are in BMC wrappers labelled "Trade Export Package - ADA 1578 [or ADA 1579] - Grille Finisher - R.B QTY ONE".

My question is mainly a hypothetical one, I have no reason to doubt the seller:

How can I tell that they are really genuine NOS, and not modern copies which have been "dressed" for sale?

The code letters moulded into the metal inside the hockey sticks do correspond to the codes on the packaging. But could they have been re-chromed for sale?

Neurotic Female

Fit them to the car and use it daily. If the chrome is still good in five years time then they're genuine, if it pits and rusts after a few weeks then they're modern.

I very much doubt that anyone would fake them - they wouldn't make much difference in price and only a minority of people know that the modern chrome is rubbish.
