Oil Leak

I have an oil leak that i can not get rid of. I thought it was coming from the usual suspect (sump gaskets seals) but i have replaced them and it is still the same. The leak appears to be coming between the engine backplate/gearbox and the sump. Is there anywhere else here that it could be coming from? the bellhousing etc is completely free of oil and clean. It is losing about 1/2 pint per day.
Cheers
Martyn

Hi Martyn,
Is the leak occuring when the car is stationary, moving, or both?

the leak seems to appear after it has been driven, it takes a few hours but then there is quite a large puddle nder the car

If it is between the back plate and the end of the sump then it is
probably the rear cork oil seal. If it was ok and has now started
leaking and tightening of the sump bolts does not improve matters
then you will need to remove the sump and replace the front and
rear oil seal strips. (if you buy a sump gasket set then it will have
the two strips included). It is important to trim these strips so
that they protrude slightly from their housings before the sump
is bolted up and thus compresses them to make a good oil tight
joint. The workshop manual suggests 1/8" (3.2mm), leave too much
and it could prevent the sump from sealing correctly.
