I'm not in the market (though maybe one day far from now) but really curious, is this for a sourced body, with _all_ parts refurbed or renewed to as new condition? And would this body have a V5, numberplate, historic vehicle status etc or would it inherit the identity of the body it replaces?

I'd have thought that most,bodyshop minor specialists can offer a 'shell' service. We have done several over the years, but have learned that there is no such thing as basic, by virtue of most customers specification, which will often require items such as modified suspension/brakes and the like to be thrown into the equation. re-bodying a minor with another shell is illegal, but it would be foolish to say that this does not happen, and for many reasons does not really matter unless total originality is sought and you are prepared to turn a blind eye on the law.

So why is it illegal for minors and not for other cars like spridgets, minis and MGBs? and why can British Motor Heritage make and sell new shells for them?
The DVLA operates a points system for re-registering kit cars/re bodied vehicles

quoting from the DVLA website
In order to retain the original registration mark:
Cars and Car-Derived Vans must use:
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or
A new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer/manufacturer (e.g. receipt)
And two other major components from the original vehicle - see list below
Suspension (front & back)
Axles (both)
Transmission
Steering Assembly
Engine
If a second-hand chassis/monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass a ESVA/SVA test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.

It is illegal to use an existing car body (which I believe the Minor specialists do). The main reason for this is that British Motor Hertiage don't make Minor bodyshells! So you can't just buy one!
If you re-shell a car with a BRAND NEW bodyshell than that's NOT illegal.

Yep, the section:
A new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer/manufacturer (e.g. receipt)
Deals with the 'new' bodyshells.
Of course, if you buy the 'shell' from the Minor specialists and use the V5C corresponding to THAT body then it's not illegal. I don't know if they supply you with one but I would hope so.
