What year is the Splitty? does it have the MM style dash, or the later one? What are you using for diff/axle?

Just use a speedo out of an gold faced '63 1098 car, plenty about I think. Maybe I've got one for you. There's about 8 scattered around the house. I would need to know the calibration number, and Willie to help me with that!

Or use the trial and error plan, like I did. Jolly expensive way of doing things, but I have finally got on that is remotely accurate

STEVE...since you appear to be using all 1098 mechanicals you can
fit any 1098 speedo but,if you would prefer a BRONZE faced one then
the only suitable 1098 ones will have the serial number on the face
of...SN4477/80. If it does not have that number then it is probably
from a 948cc car.

STEVE.....Forgot to stress that,if you do fit the 1098 type Speedo
then you MUST also fit the 1098 type sender unit in the fuel tank.
If you do not then the fuel gauge will not read correctly. It is a
straight swop so if you obtain a sender unit which uses a push-on
Lucar type connector it will definitely be suitable. Yes thanks, am
better now that the Radiotherapy has stopped, I'm such a delicate
little flower!!!

If you look on esm spares there are 2 fuel tank senders - pre and post '63. The gold speedos stopped in '63, so surely a (late) series II should be able to use a gold speedo without changing the sender

The sender changed when the engine changed to 1098cc BUT the
first two years of the 1098 had a bronze faced speedo then changed
to black. This also meant that the first two years did not have a push
on Lucar type connector on the sender but a nutted type as per
earlier senders. Complicates matters somewhat! Basic symptom...
if your fuel gauge reads backwards change the type of sender!
