Early boot lid seal

Post by Cam »

Does anyone know which way around the early boot seal is supposed to go?

It's the one fitted to the car, not the boot lid.

Only, I have just been looking through lots of rally pictures and it a bit 50-50 as to the fitment!

I tried fitting it lip outwards but then it was short by about 1/2" and the lid did not close comfortably. I tried fitting it lip inwards and it fitted perfectly and the lid closed fine.

It seems that inwards is the correct way (suits my car anyway  ), but I just wondered which was the 'official' proper way...

Cheers folks!

CAM, I have fitted mine so that the lip bends inwards towards the
centre of the car, seems to work well.

Yes, inwards is the right way.
They always come off at the corners eventually though & IMHO aren't as effective as the later seal.

Yes, that's the seal I'm on about. It has a 'lip' on the top. I was asking if this 'lip' was pointing outwards or inwards...

Ah right, yes, I seem to remember you saying about the seal before, but I could not remember which way around you said you had yours fitted.

Actually, the bootlid that I got with my 1963 saloon had the seal on the lid which I had to remove as I have repaired (welded) the bottom edge, and I had a spare early type 'body' seal sitting in the boot of my other later car. So I thought I'd fit the early type as I already had one and I think a 1963 car should have the early type... Seems to work well though pointing inwards. :D

Thanks chaps! :D
