Minor mods, what do I need

Hello folks!

At the national this summer, I have purchased a minisport inlet manifold, and big bore exhaust. And the HIF38 carb of course.

Broblem is, I want to attach those to my car. What do I do with both the choke and throttle cable? I ahve got the metal thing in between. are there special choke cables around?

I hope this is enough info...

If I recall correctly, your exisiting choke cable should be fine, but you'll need a little metal springy clip to hold it on the metal plate. One end of the clip slots into the right hole in the plate (that's the plate between manifold and carb), then the choke cable goes between it and the plate, and you have to push the other end right down till it catches under the plate (at which point your fingers slip, and it flies into the upper atmosphere). It's a lot simpler than it sounds, and I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so probably not making much sense!

The throttle cable will be different, the HiF has a cam shaped mechanism on the spindle and the right cable has a metal cylinder on th end that fits snugly into the end of the cam part. The other end will fit fine on a Minor pedal though :)

So it sounds like what you need is one of those little springy clips, and a new throttle cable (I use Metro ones, should be fine) :)

i have a hif 44 on my van, and as i recall the minor choke cable is not long enough, may be different on the 38.
i use an ital throttle cable

Oh right, and who supplies those throttle and choke cables. Itals are rare as hens teeth around here, so are metros these days.

Metro cable (bit pricey if you ask me, and I'd have thought you'd be able to get one locally without too many problems) Ebay item #4577325711

Although any HiF car will have one :)

Hit and miss with the choke cable I presume. Can't really see why the Minor one would be too short, although the HiF setup does take an inch or two more than the H/ HS I suppose due to the oddball way the outer clips to the bracket. But I can't say it enough times, make sure you have the clip, and a couple of spares!

Edited to sort out line length, silly Ebay links!

on the hif 44 the choke cable is about 1 inch to short, the way the choke is positioned at the front of the carb, so i used an mgb one.

Fair nuff - When digging out a choke for the pickup I thought they looked quite long, with plenty enough for a HiF, but admittedly I didn't try :)

Hopefully the Metro throttle cable is the right length to fit if Onne's bid on it already! :o Desperately trying to remember how long the Metro one is now :-?

not sure of the lengyth of the metro throttle cable, miner was ital, and perfect length, but marina should be ok as well, depending on the carb used.

I'd better bid on an ital one as well then! Me and my quick bidding.... Metro cable can be shorter, transverse engine, carb at the back, facing bulkhead... mmmm we'll see

On both modified cars (one had a HS4 carb, the other a HIF38) I had to use locking choke cables because the choke cam was sprung.
I used a racing bike brake cable cut to length for the throttle cable.

Where to get the little spring clip thingy - my carb came without - I just used a tie-wrap in a figure of 8 shape around the cable - seems to work ok.
