moving break master cylinder

Post by jtd.75 »

Is it possible to move break master cylinder from the inside of the chasis member (under the drivers left foot) and fit one under the bonnet and if so what would be needed how could it be done or should I leave well alone.

It can be done, but unless you are cutting the chassis leg out for a drastic conversion then leave well alone.

Thanks Cam it was only a thought, because I might be renewing the cylinder at some time in the future.

The standard cylinder is around £45 to £50, so it's not too bad when compared to the cost and efforts of making a bulkhead m/c conversion.
In the past people I have noticed people used a marina pedal box on the bulkhead as the m/c includes a servo but it certainly never looks like it was a simple job!

For easier maintenance, there are plenty of remote fluid reservoir kits that fit under the bonnet but leave the cylinder where it is. I reckon it's a good compromise.

The remote kit is a plastic reservoir that sits under the bonnet on a bracket and has a pipe which feeds down to the back of the brake master cylinder (through a new hole in the chassis leg). You have to remove the rear screw-on plug at the back of the master cylinder and screw on the one supplied which has a little spigot on for you to couple the pipe to.

It can be a bit fiddy to do, but not hard.

ESM do one:

But I had mine from the Birmingham Minor centre...

They all use 3rd party components so the quality should be the same throughout the range...
