traveller doors on a van

In Minor matters theres a van with traveller back doors (story page 33). Does anyone know if these doors fit straight on? I would have thought that the doors on a van were taller overall. Looking at the picture on page 36 the curvature at the top seems to be different. Any thoughts on how easy/tricky a job this would be?

Cheers
Chris

Not being funny at all but why on earth would you want to fit traveller rear doors to a van? :o

bigger windows, therefore better visibilty.

I think a tpae measure at the mext Minoir rally would be an easy way to find out... (unless someone out there has a traveller and a van?

Well, you say that, but I would imagine it would be easier (and a LOT better to look at) if you just made the windows larger in the van doors!

Funnily enough, the latest edition of Matters contains an article about a van with traveller rear doors fitted....

Unfortunately that would be difficult as I haven't had a Van for about 15 years.... ;-)
But from memory making the windows larger in the van doors would have been pretty hard.

I didn't know it was YOU wanting to do this, Ray! :o As you say, it would be pretty difficult with no van!

Agreed, but probably a lot easier than trying to fit traveller rear doors to a van which is more than likely a different profile and size.

Personally I don't really see the point in either case. But I like the offset mirror idea. Much more sensible.

indeed. Nasty, very very nasty.

I'm usually very firmly in the "live and let live" camp, but traveller doors on a van just look sooooo wrong.

However, each to their own I guess. From a purely practical point of view I guess I can see the motivation. Anyone else wonder though whether someone who wants a van with side windows and traveller rear doors doesn't just get a traveller?

Pesumably 'cos it was a long time ago and he was young and skint, and making the best of what he had! They were pretty disposable cars back in the old days, and it would never have occurred to anyone to bother about originality. That was certainly true till about half way through the eighties. :D

Well I think that they looked OK. It's arghuable which is worse to deal with - wood rot or rust.

The van is wider and taller and can carry more weight... but yes - it was probably because a van was all the guy had at the time and he wanted to make it a bit 'better' ;-)

My brother had a modded van 20 years ago with traveller doors - squeeked just the same as van doors, but did look a bit different!!

Yep, it is. Mind you, when I think of some of the other cars I've owned and the things I did to them...
