DODGY WINKERS!

Post by newmoggy »

IM JUST IN THE PROCESS OF SORTING OUT MY NEW MOG, FULL DETAILS & PICS SOON TO BE PUT IN THE GENERAL SECTION.

ONE OF THE ISSUES IS THE INDICATORS. BEING 1962 IT DID HAVE UNTIL RECENTLY, FLASHING FRONT SIDE LIGHTS, THE REAR LIGHTS WERE LONG REPLACED WITH LATER ONES. IT NOW HAS MINI INDICATORS WHICH WERE OK

THE INDICATORS HAVE JUST GONE FUNNY ON ME, INDICATE LEFT ONE FLASH OF THE GREEN LIGHT & THEN NOTHING, NOT EVEN THE CLICKY NOISE, HOWEVER THE INDICATORS ARE GOING ON THE OUTSIDE. INDICATE RIGHT, IT APPEARS DEAD, BUT THE ARE ACTAULLY FLASHING BUT VERY DIM & VERY VERY FAST!!

FLASHER UNIT KNACKERED?

ALSO ITS MY UNDERSTANDING IT WOULD HAVE HAD AN 8 WAY RELAY TO ALLOW THE SIDELIGHTS & BRAKES TO HAVE ACTED AS INDICATORS.
I WAS TEMPTED TO RETURN IT TO ORIGINAL, BUT THAT RELAY COSTS 50 - 60 QUID!! I WAS THINKING OF MAYBE JUST FITTING WHITE LENSES OR MAYBE FITTING THE EARLY LIGHTS BUT JUST HAVING THEM AS INDICATORS & KEEPING THE HEADLIGHTS AS SIDE LIGHTS AS THEY ARE AT THE MO.

IM GUESSING DOING IT THAT WAY WOULD BE SIMPLE WHERE AS TRYING TO GET IT BACKED TO ORGINAL STATE WILL MEAN A LOT OF WIRING!?

Just get a new flasher unit, by law I think you need to have orange indicators (and please sort out that dodgy CAPS LOCK button on your keyboard, it seems to be stuck on).
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Not if it's a '62. You are OK with flashing white front and flashing red rear lamps.

From the MoT tester's manual:
that every direction indicator emits amber light, except vehicles first used before 1 September 1965 where both front indicators may be white and both rear indicators red
Converting back to original can be easy or a right mess depending on how the previous owners converted it! Without knowing what they did, it's difficult to say.
