Need the hole ?

Hi there,
behind the battery the Minor has a big hole.
can i close this hole or is this risky ? I have a ยด59er 2-Door with a Smith heater (the round one)

Yes, you can close the hole. The hole should be covered to prevent engine fumes getting inside the car.

OK, thanks for the fast answer. For what was the hole original? On my Minor the hole was closed with a pice of rubber.

When the body was painted the car was hung on a long pole that was passed through this and the space behind the back seat.

The hole was from the early days of the "rotodip" process, I believe, where the car bodies passed through tanks of various stuff (phosphate, primer etc) suspended like a roasting pig on a spit.
