Numberplates over the Battery ?

Hi,

can someone communicate to me for what reason the two small metal strips on those numbers is up-punched to mean? The sheet metals are to be found right above the battery.

I think they are the body number, that is there for sure, don't know about the rest of the numbers

Yes, they are body numbers NOT chassis numbers (the chassis
number, without any prefixes, can be found stamped into the
bulkhead close to, and level with, the bonnet release rod where it
emerges through the bulkhead).

I'm trying to find out exactly what they refer to, but I have only a small sample of numbers and not enough to form an accurate picture yet. I have to get around some rallies next year with a clipboard and a pen!

I think there are three numbers stamped there, I will do a check when I get my car back.
