Breathers

Post by michael4 »

There is plenty of info here about breather systems but none seems to cover my set up. This leads me to believe it is not 'original' but I'd like to know whether it is doing the job adequately.

1098 engine, 1275 head, standard carb.

I have a standard metal pipe running from the tappet chest cover to the flame trap (fitted with a new scouring pad) and from there a rubber pipe runs to the air filter casing entering it between filter and carb. There is also a vented oil cap.

There is no breather pipe on the rocker cover and no provision for a valve on top of the inlet manifold.

Would this be described as 'OK'?

It isn't standard but it should work well enough. Is your engine leaking oil from the rear scroll? If not, it would seem your set up is adequate.

Thanks,

It drops a couple of spots on the garage floor but nothing significant or worrying.

That's completely normal. The scroll only works when it is turning so a few drops on engine shutdown is to be expected.
