Just looking for confirmation. 1098cc ribbed gearbox speedometer drive. I have determined a 1 1/8" A/F socket/ring spanner will fit the hexagon perfectly once the drive cable is removed.
For whatever reason, the cable attachment thread (plastic) has been crossed. I do have a "new" drive assembly and have fitted a new oil seal for the spindle to which the drive gear is attached. Plastic drive gear and body.
Does it just unscrew out of the gearbox and will there be any issues on fitting the "new" drive? e.g. lining up the gear to the internal drive when screwing into the gearbox. Presumably the steel spindle locates into some kind of bush? Is there going to be any oil loss when removed?

Even a no I've never done that but it would be interesting to have some feedback would have been good manners.
I've changed it and answered my own questions.

I'm guessing you need to at least partially drain the gearbox to do this job.......other than that, it *should* be straightforward.

I swapped drive spindles from a spare rib case a month or two ago. I didn’t remember the answers to your questions but I fumbled through without guidance. The gearbox oil level was low and my driveway is well oiled anyway so if it leaked I wasn’t concerned. I was puzzled by your comment about a new seal. I don’t remember there being any. Anyway I assume you found the job straight forward as well.
