Any kind person out tnere have a Traveller mk2 type rear axle for sale.
I currently have my Morris sulking in a local garage since discovering rotten
brackets . I've looked all over the internet but not found one - sadly a few offers which are clearly not morris. I would be very grateful - in Sheffield but happy to travel or pay delivery.

So are you looking for a Series II split-case rear axle?

It is common for the axle brackets to rust and for the axle tube to develop pin holes and leak oil. This is because dirt and moisture collects there. It is possible (although it is skilled job) to repair the axle tube and weld on new brackets. So I was told on my most recent visit to Morris Minor Workshop in East Sussex.

If you are looking for a split axle casing/assy and have no success you can replace the axle with a later complete assy. You may have to fiddle around with the prop-shaft but all doable.

What year is your Traveller?, it would help so it is known which axle you need.

That's the commonest type of axle available. Solid case or "Banjo" type axle. It's the same axle for all the models of that era. It makes no difference that it's a Traveller. Usually, it only the empty axle that is sold. The user has to transfer over the differential. half-shafts and hubs.

Is your garage a specialist for classic cars?

The garage is first rate as far as I'm concerned. The problem in finding an axle housing is that the main dealers in the UK all say NCA for this part. No one seems to have one (though I have had a few breakers offering a traveller axle that actually came off a Triumph or similar vehicles )
The reason seems to be that the post covid interest in the moggy has led to such parts being sought by a greater number of owners than previously.
Not an easy part to manufacture in your shed and the odd available one is probably no better than the one I have.
A proficient welder could probably make a good job of welding new brackets on but I belive its cast iron and may not stand up to severe heat in the state its in.

The lady of the house suggests selling my little workhorse Traveller as its clear they 'can't be repaired'. That may be the answe

Can’t be repaired, if that was the case there’d be no Minors left on the road !
However you can advertise on here if you do sell.

I recently was given a rear axle and it leaked like a sieve. I had cleaned up the casing and used FERTAN to convert the rust and the FERTAN found every pin prick in the casing. The casing was so bad I took it to the tip.

It looks a little rough but it may look worse than it is.
Now - I have a 1098cc Minor axle casing in excellent condition with good mounts going spare but I am in Hampshire 15 miles north of Southampton.
The price is £100 which is what it cost me. I have not fitted it or used it in my Minor.

You can copy the photos so that your courier can see what he is dealing with.
The weight of the bare casing is 8.6Kg.
Here are three pictures of the axle casing.
I have included the spring seats so that you can see their condition which is excellent.
The axle casing is generally oil free. The inside of the casing will need a good clean out to get rid of the spiders etc.
The axle has been dry stored with oiled socks placed over the bearing/seal seats. The hub nuts are included in the sale.

Looks good to me, big sigh of relief.
