Folks,
My 1956 SII Travellers rear nearside glass (the one with a slope to the rear, has shattered on its own *could have been due to the heat and that it was under a Stormforce cover).
Anyone have a spare that they could sell to me? Or know of a source for this type of tempered glass (I have tried the usual places).

I'd been on the Minorpartsofoxford site and didn't find what I was after (maybe I'll call him).
I've had a look at the Pilkington site and they don't list the Traveller, so will contact them also.

Note that the locks differ on the traveller sliding glass. If necessary you could probably swap over your chrome glass pull and rubber if they haven't got lost....

How on earth do you go about fitting it?

Only discovered at the weekend over a chat about Traveller window at a show that the rear panes are supposed to slide too!! Mine wont and im VERY reluctant to force them in case what has happened here happens!

Fitment is not a five minute job. I suggest that you budget to replace the top and bottom felt channels as the old ones will have deteriorated - new channels might even equal sliding windows!

In broad terms: Remove rear seat support bracket and rear door stay. Remove interior waist rail capping. Cut away inside lip of channel and ease glass inwards at the bottom until it can drop clear. (You can omit this as the window is broken) Completely remove all traces of the old channel and any fixing tacks.

Fit new top channel, retain with pins positioned so that they do not rub on the glass. Fit glass into top track. Fit new channel to bottom of glass and ease into place. Secure with pins that do not run on glass. Refit waist rail capping and other brackets.

Depending on the exact arrangement, there may be various fixings, clips and blocks to remove and refit and a whole load of sealant to clean off and apply new. The rear window slides forwards only a couple of inches but the front one slides backwards a lot further. Depending on the quality of the new channel, you may need to cut drain holes in it. This is a good opportunity to clean out the drainage channels and holes, and perhaps apply preservative and your choice of varnish type material.

Long nose pliers are useful to hold the pins, and you will need a drift and light hammer to get the pins fully home. Whilst you are about it, replace the vertical channel in the rear post too - much easier job with the window out!

Folks, thanks for all the input. I managed to get replacement glass from 2 sources. Morris Parts of Oxford (the later closer that I had to replace) and also one of the eBay sellers that had an older closer right-hand fitting (best to have a spare in case the other side decides to go).

I fitted this last Friday, but hadn't seen some of the posts that came in (didn't get the message board notifications).

Here it is in place and I will write up on how I had to do the job ( and what things managed to break) in another thread. As someone said - it wasn't easy. Thanks to every one,
