Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi all,

Sorry for the double post..put it in the wrong place first time =(

I bought a set of alloys for my morris on ebay. From a classic car nreaker who told me they came off a morris.

I slipped them on to see how they fit..hole pattern etc fine but they are too wide. Any ideas how wide I can safely go and what sort of measurements I need to take to make sure I get the correct spacers.

I am presumming the original car had spacers on it, unless it was a pickup maybe. Anyhows they rub against the trunions.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

You will get spacers in a variety of widths at the attached address. Don't go any wider than you need - how much do you think it needs? I had to space out my Cosmic mark 2's (1973) on my minor with solid spacers of I think 3/4 inch - worked fine, but you will need longer studs which speedshack can supply.

Thanks....email sent to them asking what measurements they need to get the right spacers.

They are not massively oversized....when tightened down fully they would probably need 3/4 to an inch of spacer. Whats 'too' much..?

I wouldn't really recommend anything more than 1 inch. Be sure to get the type that requires longer studs, as there are bolt on types out there than while they work, may compromise safety (imo).
I would make up temporary spacers over the studs to measure up what you require (don't drive with them!!) and ensure that you have at least 1/4 inch between tyre and upright.
Spacers really are more of a bodge than a true solution, but I did at least 40,000 miles with them on my minor with no trouble at all - don't remember what I did with them though.
You may also be able to get some at any mini specialist (same stud pattern).

I'm curious - how would a pick up not have needed spacers too?

On the back maybe, surely they are quite similar at the front?
