Connecting roof lining to hoops

Hi all, can anyone suggest the best cotton, string etc to tie the roof lining to the metal hoops? I know it needs to be fairly thick enough not to rip through the material, strong enough to withstand being stretched tight and not rot within a few years. Any experiences appreciated

They slide into the pleats in the headliner .....no need for thread.

I've never taken one out, but I'd have thought the wires at the sides provide all the tension you needed.
I can't imagine where, or how, you would use any string on the actual hoops...

It’s shown on the fitting instructions that came with the lining from newton commercials and was fitted to the ? Original lining that I have taken out.

Do you mean this bit...

USING A NEEDLE & STRONG THREAD SEW THE END OF EACH SEWN HOOP TO THE TOP WIRE OF THE SPRING CLIP.

Sewing the clips on....So just a decent needle and thread, i.e. not some cheap 'cotton' from a bargain store.

Thanks for responses. I think it’s one of those jobs where there aren’t any second chances especially if it tears through the lining material.

Yes, secure it tight enough but not too tight.
