Advice on price

Hi all,
I'm looking to sell a moggy 1000 for my mum, but don't know what to ask for it?
Dove Grey 1964 with 12209 mileage (not sure if genuine). It was my cousins, who did all the required work underneath years ago. It then went to my Dad,who was a tuner at the Cowley works when they were still in production.
He did quite a lot with it; new rad, tyres, carpets, leads etc and used to drive it at one point.
It has been garaged for years before and after he passed away and hasn't moved since then. He started to rub all the exterior down before he passed so it's 'bitty'.
I have fitted a new starter as the old one gave up, (shredded teeth) but the ring gear looks good. I have rotated the wheels now and again because it's just sitting there.
I think my cousin added the plate, as his name was Brian Witchall.
I can get it running for about 20 secs but it just peeters out. Everything wants a real good logical order reset I think.
I was going to continue the work on it but I don't have the time really.
I just wondered what ballpark figure I should be looking at? I know he got offered over £3000 when he had it on the road.
The pictures attached were from then, when he insured it, so it's rubbed down and grubbier now :(
Location is Oxford. It has only let me attach 5 pictures?

Perhaps you could contact:
https://minorpartsofoxford.co.uk/
and see if they'd give you a valuation since they also sell cars.

It looked really nice 12-years ago and would probably been worth at least 3k then.

I'm not sure how anyone on here could give a meaningful estimate without seeing overall condition but I'd recommend that you find a similar few on eBay and that should give you a rough idea of what they sell for today.

Thanks for the answers. Especially about the pictures; I nearly tried 'replying' to myself but chickened out:)

First off get it running.
It could be something silly, old fuel or any blessed thing.
Find a Morris specialist in your area, it would be worthwhile as when running it will fetch in my opinion upwards of £5k
Remember the old adage of start high and come down if necessary,
If you don't someone will fleece you.

Cheers, I have been trying on and off, (more off). Lost count of the amount of fuel I keep replacing:(
Will see if I can find someone more 'in the know'. Like I say, most of the tuning advice starts with "with the engine warm" etc. I think a lot is to do with the carb cables; the choke screw doesn't 'line up' with the rocker cam properly and the screw doesn't reach that far even when fully screwed in.Yet it was running when dad garaged it.

Also afraid that if I get it running I will want it:)

I agree with getting it running first as a non-runner is an excuse for punters to try and knock the price down. It will almost certainly be something simple and inexpensive to fix once the fault is identified. The fact that "it was running when dad garaged it" indicates there can't be anything much wrong.I suggest that ignition system and fuel supply checks and ensure enough oil in dashpot is the way forward......

Something has just occurred.
He didn't fit an immobiliser did he?
Something that cuts the fuel off after initial start up ?

Just something else to throw into the mix,(although I do agree with all the other suggestions of at least getting it running.....and then even an MOT ticket, if possible) but I'm 99% certain that it is a so-called 'Dual Personality' Minor. That is to say, one built between Sept '62 and Oct '64.

If it is indeed a DP - and the chassis no. would be the 'acid test' - I would strongly recommend logging it on the Dual Personality register. To be fair, I would say that wouldn't I, as co-registrar of the MMOC Dual Personality register!! :D Seriously though, I wouldn't ever claim that having it officially recorded as a DP Minor would add any significant value but I do believe it is a selling point. After the exposure of DP Minors at the NEC last November and the recent coverage in Minor Matters I think DPs are becoming quite sought after.

Please DM me if any more information is required about the Dual Personality register or have a look at the website: https://www.dualpersonalitymorrisminors.co.uk

But it does have 'tandem' wipers but no keylock on left door? Someone moved the heater 'boost' cable to the dashboard (for convenience?) and routed the cable through the top of the bulkhead, (cable which I need to repair). Will look at the brake drum size on Monday.

Your car is a 4door version so won't have a key lock on the passenger side in any case. The 4door cars never did. The front brake drums will be the later 8inch ones because by 1964 all Minors were fitted with the 1098cc engine and had the larger brakes as standard.
Your car is still in very much the standard specification for a Minor 1000 of its age - pre the October 1964 facelift.

Whoever suggested a value of £5000.00 presumably hasn't read your description and hasn't understood that the car has been off the road for several years and is partially prepared for a respray. Your old photographs are rather misleading! It'll be a great and hopefully fairly straightforward project
for somebody but it is impossible to obtain a realistic valuation without someone seeing and inspecting a car of course.

The registration number is an Oxfordshire re-issue. Given to the car when it was re-registered in the past and when Oxford still had its own DVLA office. I had one some years ago which was given the registration number EBW 60B when the previous owner transferred the original number.

That's definitely a Dual Personality Minor. :tu1:

There's no need to worry too much about exact specifications as that's part of the beauty of the DP period of production. It's widely thought that as certain components were eventually used up from the parts bins, or tooling was eventually changed etc. that the models evolved into what became pretty much the final iteration of the Morris Minor. For this reason, some DP models, be they notionally either Phase I or Phase II, can vary slightly.

I've sent you a PM with my contact details, if you wish to have the car logged on the DP register.

I suggested £5k if the car was a runner, with the advice start high, as we can always come down in cost, but once a price is printed it is very difficult to go up in price.
£3k given the condition, assuming it is much the same as when the photos were taken, (as it hasnt done any miles since then) is too low, my belief is someone would buy it at that, put the least amount of work in to it and sell it at around £5k.
The car will fetch £5k when running in a clean condition and is worth it.
To get it there or there abouts I also suggested finding a Morris specialist in the area, who I am quite sure will confirm my estimate.
Like John Lewis, we should "never knowingly be undersold"
Morris Minors should always be considered good value, but never cheap.
