Morris Minor Million -- alternative colour choice

Hi,
I have to say that whilst it's great that Morris Minor's passed the one million mark, their choice of colour for the celebration model has always left me somewhat disappointed. Plus the story of how it was arrived at seems like it was almost an afterthought....
So what about the alternatives and are all Millions still religiously stuck in a shade of pink? Sorry I mean Lilac........
How about a nice deep purple?
Pastel of course, as I think metallic colours were in their infancy /a bit dodgy back then.
I actually think that it would have suited the Morris Minor really well, shame it was never a factory option.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Like you, I am underwhelmed with the colour of the Million. If it was produced today I would hope it would be painted in a Royal Purple.

its your car, paint it whatever colour you want,
if it was mine I would keep it original, or sell it and paint another car,

Maybe it was on here, or the magazine or.... somewhere... but there had been one someone painted black.

Personally, I think if it's a special edition car, then it should be kept original.

I've seen someone take a special edition car, and bin everything that made it a special edition, because they didn't like the special edition trim etc. If memory serves, they were also thinking of respraying it as they weren't so keen on the special edition colour either - why not just buy a regular edition then and customise it to suit your taste !

I think it's a poor colour choice too, not to my taste which is why I wouldn't have one.
The story of how it came about is pretty lame too, but typical of the era.

Personally, I don't like the colour either but that IS the colour of a special edition vehicle so learn to love it or sell it to somebody who will.

Looking at Mike's original post, I read it as a hypothetical debate, not a suggestion to change an existing Million. It's not a question of "leave it alone", it's more "If you had been in charge, what colours would you have chosen?" Of course, I could be wrong.

For me. it's the trim colour that would be different, but that's because I'm too practical to appreciate the "style", I want a darker colour that does not show the dirt so easily.

The 1,000,000 badges are brilliant, but body colour is difficult. It needs to be bright to "stand out" and "make a statement". A light purple (if there is such a thing) would get my vote.

Yes, that's how I read the post too; there's no mention of his owning - or even aspiring to own - a Million.

Involuntary reaction to colour combination. Certainly wouldn't encourage me to buy one but to each their own. Look at when VW did a different colour on every panel as a special.

As to suggestions, I think they could of done a union jack roof with normal choice of body colours to create million version and maybe a nice brass plaque on dash.

Doubt the forums allow .psd files (where I hae the hubcaps/grille separate), so here's a greyscale if anyone wants to colour it in.

Exactly, a hypothetical debate, I have no desire to own a Million, great to have celebratory cars in existence and good to see a well maintained one at shows.
But to me they are just two door cars in an awful colour. If I had been in charge of colour choices back then Minors would never have ever been seen in that shade.
The significance of the 1000000 badge and their interior trim are the best bits for me.
So 'Angry from Surrey' may relax, I'm not ever looking to buy one, just to repaint and devalue it (in some peoples eyes). 8)

I like the colour options pictured by Chief.
Another to throw into the ring, that would also set off the existing interior colour trim nicely, would be British Racing Green.
It might have sold better too, as I read somewhere that the last ones struggled to leave their respective showrooms, due to public reaction to the colour.
Best wishes,
Mike.
