Hello everyone and happy new year!
I am in the middle of a sympathetic restoration of my '57 moggy and considering an engine upgrade from its standard 948 . I have located a 1098 short engine from a sprite, ( the 10CC unit ) which I would like to proceed with. I am seeking advice as unfortunately the engine is minus its flywheel. I have read that interchangability between flywheels is not straight forward. The gearbox in my vehicle looks to have been changed as its running a 'ribbed' type box, with the remote part stamped 22A 480, and the tail of the box stamped 22A478. Reading through past posts and searching the part numbers would suggest this is a 1098 box.

I am looking for some advice on the what modifications need to be made for an alternative flywheel to fit, or indeed if anyone has the correct part for sale?

With greatful thanks, Chris

Tricky as most suppliers offer an exchange unit only.
It may be worth trying to call Peter May Engineering. They list a few flywheels for fast road or racing Midgets that may or may not be suitable. I have always found them to be super helpful, they may even have a second hand one in their stock of spares.

My next port of call would be a call into Mike Rolls MG. Again, I have found Mike and his wife incredibly friendly and knowledgeable when looking for Midget parts. They usually have midgets and sprites as donor cars.

Failing that perhaps MGOC Spares may be of use.
