I have just purchased a replacement gearbox gaiter for my 1966 Traveller. However when I tried to fit it, I find that overall its about 1/2 inch lower than the original and the internal hole is about 1/2 smaller. Therefore fitting it is very difficult. I have been assured that all the ones available are of the same size. Is anyone else aware of this problem and how it can be fixed.

I bought one that was exactly the same (in terms of dimensions) as the original. The only problem was that it was made of a harder rubber and so did not flex as it should, so I ended up using a 2nd hand original one.

Thanks for the reply. The real problem is the size of the replacement, its too small to fit snugly over the gearbox and clamp down to the tunnel. What size was the secondhand original one you obtained? Perhaps thats a route I should look at.

It sounds better than the rubber sucker for the interior mirror I just bought.
It barely stuck to the screen but wouldn't even pretend to attach to the mirror

Well I did not measure it but it was the same as the one I took off (but not knackered!).

Ray, I bought one of those from Brum and it was complately deformed and had no chance of sticking to a screen.

I've got one of these, although it does hold the mirror quite well - it cost me 40p from an aquatic supplies shop (they are used to hold foam water filters or thermostats to the fish tank glass).
