Tyre size

Hi,
I've been looking for an 'All Season' tyre for my Morris and am finding that everything I look at in the 155/80 R14 or 165/80 R14 ranges turn out to be "Summer" tyres, which are not very good in winter driving conditions.
The 'All Season' tyres I do find are 155/65 (for example) or smaller, so my question is:
Would 175/80 R14 be a good fit?
Has anyone tried this size?
Best wishes,
Mike.

Do you have standard wheels? You can get away with 155/80/14 but anything wider should be avoided, The best size for a Minor is 145/80/14 I find and the cars drive much better on the size they were designed for. I don't know whether they are still available but I seem to recall that Bridgestone manufactured mud & snow tyres in that size? They were excellent in winter

How much driving do you do in your Minor in 'winter' conditions?
As far as tyres are concerned, the definition is sustained periods of under 7 degC.
Winter tyres are too soft a compound for sustained use at higher temps; the tyres will rapidly wear out.
While they give an actual temperature, there has to be some leeway on usage, because you're not going to change tyres/wheels every morning or evening as the temp rises and falls.
I agree an 'all season' would be an idea, but the way the weather is these days, I don't feel the need to specifically seek out 'all season' for any of our cars.

This type of question comes up quite often. If you live in the South of the UK then it is unlikely that there is any need for winter tyres. Of course there can be severe winters but this does not happen often enough to justify the switch to winter tyres. On the other hand, if you live in the Highlands of Scotland then you would be well advised to use winter tyres or All Season. For my modern car, I used to drive a lot in Germany where winter tyres are a legal requirement so I had 2 sets of wheels, 1 set with summer tyres mounted and the other with winter tyres. Now my trips to Germany are not so frequent so I just have All Season tyres fitted.
