Car for Sale in Rochford?

Hey, I hope this is okay to ask on here… but a colleague at work left me a message about a mog for sale in Rochford, Essex that they have seen on FB. I’m not on FB so I can’t go look at the ad, all I have to go on is a pic which shows me it’s blue with a reg of UHJ 879. Asking price is £3,800

I’ve checked online to see that it’s SORNED right now and it’s not advertised on classic cars. This car is not too far from where I live and it’s within my budget, so I’d like to find out more about it but unfortunately I can’t get hold of the person who left me the message about it.

Long shot but if anyone knows this car could they pm me? I have reached out to the Essex MM club too incase the seller is a member but thought it might be worth asking on here too!

Thanks!

Don't you have any friends who use Facebook who could copy the details for you?

I did ask another friend but they couldn’t find the ad. I’ve left a message for the colleague who saw it originally to see if they have more info. Hopefully they will get back to me :D

All I can find out is the DVLA say it was first registered in 1959 and the MoT expired in 2008.

Well....
It might have been SORN only recently, and just not MOT''d, but that's probably wishful thinking...

I just found it on Farcebook Marketplace.
It does look quite good up to and inside, but there's no photos of the underside.

It looks quite 'original', with no aftermarket indicators fitted and correct side/rear lights for year.
Only thing I can spot is aftermarket push button screen wash button in the dash; which would be right for the Tudor Screen Wash Bottle under the bonnet.
Possible been resprayed, a couple of 'honest' photos showing some minor scrapes.
It looks a little 'too good to be true', as it's been listed for 6 weeks without selling. But perhaps it was a 'Little Old Lady' car.... :-?

Here's the link for anyone with Farcebook: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 7435782984

Seller has a well locked down profile, only been on Farcebook for 2 years; only contact details is to message them via their profile.
Listed as 'Lives in Great Wakering', which is more like Southend than Rochford.

Here's a couple of photos from the listing. Note several vehicles on the frontage.... :-?
But all they've got listed on farcebook is this car, a kayak, an electric bike and a GCSE practice book.

You'd really need an experience 'car' person, ideally with Minor or other classic knowledge, to go with you to see it.

Yes, I would say it has been partly resprayed at some point from comparing the engine bay to the rest of the car. But it does look a pretty little car and unmolested, so worth inspecting. As Bernie says, try and get someone knowledgeable about these cars to go with you. What we don't know is the state of the underside and how well it runs, stops etc.

Thank you all,
I appreciate the advice. I’m off on hols next week so I’ll see what the situation is on my return. Have also been looking at another nice little mog which is a little pricier and a little further afield but it has a current MOT and is taxed.
Will most definitely be taking someone knowledgeable along with me though!
Wow the prospect of possibly getting a classic is so exciting but so scary at the same time! I don’t want to get it wrong

When you do go to look at cars it's a good idea to take a pair of ramps with you and obtain the seller's permission to run it up on to them so you can get a close and all-important look at the state of play underneath. If the seller is unhappy with that suggestion draw your own conclusions. 8)

That’s a great idea thanks… and you’re right, if they are reluctant I’m going to wonder what they are hiding!
