I was browsing through the mot history of my minor and noticed this advisory with interesting comment

The advisory statement is correct in that the Marina/Ital front bearings do have play even when adjusted correctly and the Marina/Ital workshop manual states the same.
At least someone knows his onions.

I wonder then why it is an advisory?
If he knew Marina units had free play.
I do recall adjusting front taper roller bearings on a Triumph, never quite tight enough, never so slack they were an issue, but free play always existed, to a lesser or greater degree.
As in your case through experience, some latitude was granted on MOT day.

I have had this come up on MOTs for years with my Marina bearings, always as an advisory, but I do wonder why.

Never had this with my car. I have JLH Ford based taper front bearings, also with a little play.

The reason I suspect is to ensure that if the vehicle was subsequently checked the play in the wheel bearings had been identified and the reason for the play highlighted.
Morris Minors with original hubs and bearings do not and should not have play in the bearings.

Also a good reference for the subsequent test if a different tester.
