Hi,

Following an hour on the hardshoulder of the M25 a couple of weeks ago I'm going to fit a water temp and an oil pressure gauge to Rosie. My question is...

Am I better getting a mechanical or electric oil pressure gauge? If I get an electric gauge what sender unit do I need to get or can I just wire it up to the one for the oil pressure warning light? (Sorry if that was a really dumb question)

I personally prefer a "mechanical" gauge. Just as easy (well almost!) to route a small bore copper pipe, and fit a "tee" piece into where the oil pressure switch screws, than wires. I would say no to the possibility of utilising the warning light switch because that's all it is an on/off switch depending on whether the minimum oil pressure to which it has been set has been achieved.

I agree with '57'. My gauge has a small bore PLASTIC oil pipe
from the T piece on the oil pressure switch and has been trouble free
for over eleven years. Even if you use a metal pipe it needs a bit
of flexible on it somewhere to allow for engine movement. You can
tell an awful lot about an engine from the various oil gauge readings!

Hooray, gauges from E-bay arrived today, I just need to source a temp. sender, a capillary pipe and a T piece now

Try a mini or a metro at any breakers yard. You might even get the T piece and line if you are incredibly lucky (but bear in mind if it breaks you will suddenly find a large amount of oil on the floor/in your lap)

Just got the temp. sender, capillary and T-piece new from minispares.com for the same price as the sender from halfrauds!
