Surprise at the Tip

I've had Ted the Travellers engine out for overhaul and a couple of modifications. His first trip since the rebuild was to the local tip where a lovely surprise greeted me.

A glorious machine and crazy to see it in such surroundings.
Ted performed very well, I'd honed the bores, fitted new rings, new mains and big end shells and an MG Metro cam with matching oil pump to compliment the 12G940 head already fitted.
He was a little smoky previously with an ever present smell of burning oil, not any more.

Very nice. I am convinced that my Minor's regular oil changes kept the engine going for a very very long time he before he needed an engine rebuild. I too see interesting cars at the dump and particularly around the used engine oil disposal hopper. I kept very bad records and I am not sure whether my car is 40,000 or 140,000 before the engine finally burnt and leaked so much oil it was too much. I am pretty sure it's 140,000 miles because I watched it reset but we didn't have mobile phone cameras for this momentous occasion. Now it has had 2x replacement speedos so what it says is irrelevant. How was 140,000 miles done before rebuild? My favourite green Duckhams oil!

Very few around now, I know a guy in our local motor club with one, last time I saw him he was considering selling it.
Your Moggie outshines it though.

He was still pulling quite well with only a few drips here and there. He only smoked on start up with no rumbling from the bottom end so probably would have lasted for years. The main reason for the strip down was to fit the new cam, and it seemed false economy not to do the rest with the engine on the bench. I use Duckhams green blood in all my cars now and will treat Ted to the same after a couple of hundred miles, he's got Morris Golden Film in at the moment which I thought most appropriate.
