Hi all,we all know owning an old car can be physically and mentally challenging,but one thing is usually certain is parts etc are usually relatively cheap. I bought two keys as spares for Daisy the moggie and got change from a tenner,whereas my modern Hyundai has just released my wallet of £140 for a new spare remote key. Total madness! Long may the classic market last and spares stay cheap.

£140.00 is relatively cheap for a modern car remote key. Some are much more!
Lights are another major expense

Yes. Parts for our Minors are definitely far more affordable than they are for modern cars. Nobody likes spending more money than they have to but I cannot understand some people's mentality when they are absolutely mean in what they will spend on their Minors. It does us no favours; we just end up with nasty cheap parts that don't fit and don't last. Buy the best quality parts you can, new old original parts if possible. Where possible have old units professionally rebuilt. It keeps these businesses and skills alive. For instance, I am going to take my car's original starter motor for rebuild to an amazing business that rewinds and rebuilds old motors and dynamos. I could have bought a cheap Far East copy and had it delivered to my door. Much less effort but why would I do that!

Yes totally agree with you on getting old parts refurbished,but some people like the idea of new bits and pieces and I won't knock them for that ,each to their own as they say. I got loads of second spares for Daisy a while ago and with patience knocked together two carbs ,a spare dynamo and starter motor and loads of other parts for around £70. Bargain I thought.

Agreed. The temptation for shiny new parts is strong until the reality of disappointment with such things sinks in......takes a while
