Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi all,

Just a quick introduction. I guess I could be considered to be a bit enthusiastic, I have joined the owner club, and this forum in anticipation of being a Morris Minor owner

So as a way of introduction, I am an electro mechanical design engineer/inventor, about to semi retire. I am trying to create an affordable retirement, and one area to be considered is my transport.... Currently I drive a Merc, that requires a mechanic and a computer for everything. If someone looks at my car 'in a funny way', there will be a warning light pop up on the dashboard, and another trip to the dealer....

As a child, I remember helping my dad through a series of minis, a couple of escorts, a couple of fiestas. Later in life I had a couple of Saabs and a kit car based around the running gear of a 1971 Mexico. Also a Hillman and a Chrysler Avenger

So I am thinking that a Minor van would have plenty of room for my dog, I tend to like solitude, so a single passenger seat would be fine, and the fact I can repair and maintain it myself is also an attractive point.

However, I do like my comfort, so I am glad to see that there is a 5 speed box conversion, I can also get Aircon and even cruise control fitted. All of that coupled with disc brakes and Bluetooth seems to appeal to my Idea of using this as my daily driver....
I keep saying Van, buying guess a traveller would also work .

I am glad to be here, and starting my Moggy journey here as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention my dad and I rebuilt my sister's Beetle as well.
I also had a series IIa SWB (once remember repairing the throttle linkage with a straightened large paperclip)
A Series III LWV defender
A Super Estelle II (always my favourite Skoda, I would love a rally spec one of those ).

As you can see, my car history is really based around cars that were designed to be maintained by the normal car driver. I have always loved the Moggy, and hope my idea of keeping modern comforts with the idea of something that can be maintained at home is not upsetting to those concourse owners.

Welcome, ownership is as individual as the owners, its your car, so you fit the options/mods that suits you best and your use.
Minors come with airco as standard, opening quarter light windows Plenty of info on your other ideas on here, try the search facility.
Good luck with finding the car or van for your needs.

Welcome, you won’t upset anyone by modifying your Minor, plenty do it. Not sure your intended mods increase the comfort though, wait ‘till you experience the ride ! I have often thought with so many mods and updates folk do, it would make more sense to buy a new car with it all included, although if you personally like a car you can tinker with, fair enough. However one of the reasons a Minor is reliable is because of the lack of bells and whistles !

I’m a fellow newbie! Also in the research phases of Morris Minor ownership, although I have absolutely zero classic experience so lots to learn and a manual driving test to get through. (I passed in an automatic)

Hi Phil. I think that by now there is no such thing as a standard Minor unless it is never used on the road. Like the man said, it will be your baby, you do what you want. There are so many options you will be spoilt for choice. When you get a Minor (I am sure you will) keep us informed of your modifications, some may be copied.

It may not matter to the OP, but remember that some mods (eg a non A series engine) may deprive you of the Road Tax exemption.

I think of myself as a newbie as well...I was recently gifted a 1953 Morris Minor rot box to tinker with and I had 1960 Morris Minor that I fiddled with for about 6 months before another project caught my eye so I sold it...

One of the reasons I am so attracted to them is the aftermarket support is phenomenal and the a lot of the parts are pretty darn good quality too...I am to the point in my life as I am working part time so I have time to tinker and having a vehicle I can actually fix with out a trip the shop to get plugged in can be very satisfying to me...my dad could fix anything and he never had to plug anything in either...well maybe the lead light under the hood...

It's great to see you joining the Morris Minor enthusiast community! I also have a deep appreciation for classic cars. Like you, I've had wonderful experiences with models like the Mini and Fiat in the past.
I hope you have many exciting and memorable journeys with your Morris Minor!

Vennpaul, that's your first post, and we normally say welcome, but it's slightly odd - not much about you, and I can't see any mention of Fiat elsewhere in the thread. Can you tell us about your own interest in Minors?

But not as obvious as the post last year, that advised checking a Minor's fuel injectors!
